We are seeking a dedicated and skilled EAL (English as an Additional Language) Teacher to support students in developing their English language proficiency across all year levels. The successful candidate will provide targeted language instruction, collaborate with classroom teachers, and create supportive learning environments that enable English language learners to access the curriculum and achieve academic success.
EAL Instruction:
Provide explicit English language instruction to students at various proficiency levels
Design and deliver differentiated EAL lessons based on students' language needs
Teach listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills
Develop students' academic vocabulary and language structures
Use scaffolding strategies to support language acquisition
Implement evidence-based EAL teaching methodologies
Integrate technology and digital tools to enhance language learning
Assessment & Progress Monitoring:
Assess students' English language proficiency using appropriate tools
Monitor and track individual student progress in language development
Use formative and summative assessments to inform instruction
Maintain accurate records of student language proficiency levels
Identify students requiring additional support or intervention
Report on student progress to parents and classroom teachers
Use data to plan targeted instruction and set language learning goals
Collaboration & Support:
Collaborate with classroom teachers to support EAL students' access to curriculum
Co-teach or provide in-class support as needed
Advise teachers on differentiation strategies for EAL learners
Develop language support materials and resources
Participate in student support team meetings
Work with learning support staff for students with additional needs
Contribute to whole-school EAL policy and practice
Individualized Support:
Provide small group or one-to-one language support
Develop individualized language learning plans
Support students with academic writing and literacy skills
Help students develop study skills and learning strategies
Provide additional support for newcomers and beginner-level students
Challenge advanced EAL students to continue developing academic English
Support students in building confidence and independence
Curriculum Development:
Develop EAL curriculum aligned with international best practices
Create engaging lesson plans and teaching materials
Design scaffolded assessments appropriate for EAL learners
Integrate cultural awareness and multicultural perspectives
Adapt mainstream curriculum materials for language learners
Stay current with EAL research and best practices
Contribute to EAL programme development and review
Parent Communication:
Communicate regularly with parents about student progress
Provide guidance on supporting English learning at home
Explain EAL programme and language development processes
Address parent questions and concerns
Build positive partnerships with families from diverse backgrounds
Support parents in understanding the school's language policies
Professional Collaboration:
Participate in departmental meetings and professional learning communities
Engage in professional development and EAL training
Share expertise and resources with colleagues
Mentor new teachers in EAL strategies
Contribute to school improvement initiatives
Participate in school events and activities
Essential:
Bachelor's degree in Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related field
Valid teaching certification/license from home country
TEFL/TESOL certificate (minimum 120 hours) or equivalent
Minimum 2-3 years of EAL/ESL teaching experience
Experience teaching English language learners in school settings
Strong knowledge of second language acquisition theory and methodology
Excellent English communication skills (native or near-native)
Understanding of differentiated instruction and scaffolding strategies
Strong assessment and data analysis skills
Cultural sensitivity and international-mindedness
Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills
Preferred:
Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or Education
Experience in international schools, particularly in Asia/China
Experience with IB programmes (PYP, MYP, or DP)
Knowledge of bilingual education principles
Proficiency in educational technology for language learning
Experience with language assessment tools (WIDA, CEFR, etc.)
Additional language skills (Mandarin Chinese advantageous)
Experience with newcomer students and beginner-level learners
Familiarity with curriculum areas (literacy, content-based instruction)
