We are seeking a passionate and experienced IBDP English Teacher to join our humanities department. The successful candidate will deliver outstanding instruction in IB English (Language and Literature or Literature), inspire a love of literature and language, and prepare students for IB examinations while also contributing to Art and Humanities programmes.
Teaching & Learning:
Teach IBDP English Language and Literature or Literature at HL and/or SL
Deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons aligned with IB philosophy
Prepare students for IB English internal assessments and external examinations
Facilitate critical analysis of literary and non-literary texts
Develop students' analytical writing, oral communication, and critical thinking skills
Guide students in completing Individual Oral and Higher Level Essay
Integrate Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Approaches to Learning (ATL)
Literature & Language Instruction:
Teach diverse texts from various periods, cultures, and genres
Facilitate discussions on literary themes, contexts, and interpretations
Develop students' understanding of language, style, and rhetoric
Support students in comparative analysis and critical evaluation
Encourage creative and analytical responses to texts
Integrate global issues and intercultural understanding
Assessment & Examination Preparation:
Design formative and summative assessments aligned with IB criteria
Provide timely, constructive feedback on essays and oral work
Monitor and track student progress toward IB achievement
Prepare students for IB examinations with proven success strategies
Maintain accurate records of student achievement
Moderate internal assessments according to IB standards
Student Support:
Mentor students in developing critical thinking and analytical skills
Support students with university applications and personal statements
Guide students in Extended Essay supervision (if applicable)
Provide additional support for students requiring assistance
Encourage participation in literary competitions and events
Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment
Contribution to Arts & Humanities:
Collaborate with Art and Humanities departments on interdisciplinary projects
Support school cultural events, literary magazines, or drama productions
Integrate connections between literature, art, and humanities
Participate in cross-curricular initiatives and programmes
Professional Collaboration:
Participate in departmental meetings and collaborative planning
Engage in IB professional development and training
Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development
Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress
Contribute to school improvement initiatives
IB-Specific Duties:
Attend IB workshops and training sessions
Stay current with IB curriculum updates and best practices
Participate in IB moderation and standardization processes
Ensure compliance with IB standards and academic honesty
Essential:
Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, Education, or related field
Valid teaching certification/license from home country (e.g., PGCE, QTS, State License)
Minimum 2-3 years of teaching experience, preferably in international schools
Experience teaching IBDP English (Language and Literature or Literature)
Strong knowledge of IB curriculum, assessment, and philosophy
Excellent command of English (native or near-native proficiency)
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Strong classroom management and organizational skills
Passion for literature and language education
Commitment to IB learner profile and international-mindedness
Preferred:
Master's degree in English, Literature, or Education
IB Category 1, 2, or 3 training certification
Experience as an IB examiner or workshop leader
Experience in international schools in Asia/China
Interest or experience in Arts and Humanities integration
Familiarity with diverse literary traditions and global literature
Experience with academic writing and university counseling
Proficiency in educational technology
