Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Assistant Head of Middle School with expertise in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). The successful candidate will provide academic and pastoral leadership, support the Middle School Principal, and drive continuous improvement in teaching and learning while ensuring the highest standards of IB MYP implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership:

  • Support the Middle School Principal in overall school leadership and management

  • Lead the implementation and development of the IB MYP curriculum

  • Ensure curriculum alignment with IB standards and best practices

  • Oversee curriculum planning, assessment, and reporting systems

  • Drive innovation in teaching and learning across the middle school

  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning

Instructional Leadership:

  • Conduct regular lesson observations and provide constructive feedback

  • Mentor and coach teachers to improve instructional practice

  • Lead professional development sessions and PLCs (Professional Learning Communities)

  • Support teachers in IB MYP planning and assessment

  • Promote differentiated instruction and inclusive practices

  • Implement evidence-based teaching strategies

MYP Coordination:

  • Serve as MYP Coordinator or work closely with the MYP Coordinator

  • Ensure compliance with IB MYP requirements and standards

  • Lead MYP self-study and programme evaluation processes

  • Coordinate interdisciplinary units and Approaches to Learning (ATL)

  • Oversee the MYP Personal Project

  • Manage MYP ePortfolio and assessment systems

Student Welfare & Pastoral Care:

  • Support student wellbeing and pastoral care systems

  • Oversee student discipline and behavior management

  • Promote student voice and leadership opportunities

  • Ensure effective communication with parents and guardians

  • Support students with additional learning needs

  • Foster a positive, inclusive school culture

Staff Management:

  • Support recruitment, induction, and mentoring of new teachers

  • Conduct performance evaluations and goal-setting with teachers

  • Manage teaching schedules and workload distribution

  • Support staff wellbeing and professional growth

  • Lead departmental and grade-level teams

  • Foster collaborative culture among staff

Operational Management:

  • Assist with budget planning and resource allocation

  • Manage facilities and learning resources for middle school

  • Oversee extracurricular activities and events

  • Ensure health and safety compliance

  • Support admissions and enrollment processes

  • Represent the school at events and meetings

Strategic Development:

  • Contribute to school strategic planning and improvement

  • Implement school policies and procedures

  • Drive initiatives for school improvement and innovation

  • Build partnerships with parents and community

  • Promote the school's reputation and enrollment

  • Stay current with international education trends and IB developments

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (Master's strongly preferred)

  • Valid teaching certification/license from home country

  • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in international schools

  • Minimum 2-3 years in middle leadership role (Head of Department, Grade Level Leader, etc.)

  • Extensive experience with IB MYP curriculum and philosophy

  • Strong understanding of IB standards and practices

  • Proven track record of instructional leadership and school improvement

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Native or near-native English proficiency

  • Commitment to international education and student-centered learning

  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field

  • IB MYP Coordinator training or experience

  • Experience in Nord Anglia Education or similar international school groups

  • Experience with IB programme evaluation and self-study

  • Familiarity with Asian educational context and Chinese culture

  • Experience with curriculum development and innovation

  • Proficiency in educational technology and data analysis

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: 30,000 - 40,000 RMB/month (before tax), commensurate with qualifications and experience
